Not many people buy movies anymore.  The die-hard collectors always will.  The last DVD I purchased was Thor: Ragnarok, and that was only because I wanted the Team Darryl featurette that would never stream.

I’m going to say Ryan Reynolds and the guys at Fox recognise this.  As such, the upcoming August release of Deadpool 2 includes a load of extras, including the extended ‘Super Duper [email protected]{dfca638b9dbdbc1caf156b9b6679a983a965572ca56a786c9cf360ad3783820c}!#& Cut’.

Included in the physical release:

  • Gag Reel
  • Deleted/Extended Scenes
  • Until Your Face Hurts: Alt Takes
  • Deadpool’s Lips are Sealed: Secrets and Easter Eggs
  • The Most Important X-Force Member
  • Deadpool Family Values: Cast of Characters
  • David Leitch Not Lynch: Directing DP2

15 extra minutes makes the 'Super Duper [email protected]{dfca638b9dbdbc1caf156b9b6679a983a965572ca56a786c9cf360ad3783820c}!#& Cut'

Of course, this couldn’t just be quietly released.  Oh no, where is the fun in that?

Instead this appeared on Ryan Reynolds twitter account:

Nothing about this release on the JB Hi-Fi website yet, but I am sure it will be coming.  The backlash would be too huge otherwise 🙂

The latest outing from CMON is now live on Kickstarter – Cthulhu: Death May Die.

A collaboration between two of my favourite designers Rob Daviau and Eric M. Lang, with a cooperative effort to end Cthulu.  It all seemed right up my alley.  Timing and a huge initial rush does mean I have missed every single early bird pledge, but that’s OK.  It’s a CMON project – there is going to be a ton of plastic extras that don’t fit in the box and push shipping rates up anyway :p

Another usual problem I have with CMON projects is no rules.  This looks great, but will it be fun to play?

The situation on this front seems to be improving though.  This time around there is a gameplay walkthrough hosted by Eric M. Lang himself!

I have only mostly watched the video all the way through, and I will watch it another time or two, but the Cthulhu: Death May Die looks like it has a lot of potential.

But it is only potential, and as such I have 2 reservations.

  1. I have a lot of cooperative games already in the Cthulhu theme.  While the comparison is unfair as they are very different games, Mansions of Madness: Second Edition already springs to mind as a fun mini-fest with expanding scenarios.  And I have it on my shelf now.
  2. The cost.  It’s CMON – there will be a lot of plastic.  A lot.  Oh, so much plastic.  But the ‘All In’ pledge is 2.5x the base game, for what sounds like a Kickstarter Exclusive expansion with no information on.
Cthulhu Death May Die Components
So much goodness. Or is it? It's CMON, it's going to be beautiful.

The components look great, and Cthulhu: Death May Die has an interesting premise.  But some CMON Kickstarters have the problem where the ‘stretch goal optional expansions’ were required to make the game fun to play, which pushes me to back the ‘R’yleh Rising’ All In pledge.  At USD$250 plus probably USD$45 shipping.

That’s an almost AUD$400 investment in a game I can’t see the rules for or what the expansion is, and that’s asking a lot.

Cthulhu: Death May Die has only just launched in the last 12 hours as of posting, so everything is pretty fresh.  I am sure over the next few weeks there will be more information, so expect a follow-up post in about 3 weeks.  I will then talk about if I decide to back this one or not, and the reasons why.  In the meantime, check out the Kickstarter page and let me know what you think.

Until next time,

Another reason why I love Deadpool movie marketing

Deadpool 2 Cinema

Why can’t we have nice things like this?  Wait, no, I remember

I love living in Australia.  I really do.  But then I see something like this, and I think “Awwww”.

At the Shinjuku Metro train station, this little bit of Deadpool 2 marketing hype appeared one night:

Deadpool 2 Japan Billboard

It’s a huge Deadpool poster!  Oh, with Domino and Cable obviously.  But Deadpool!  In 3D!

Visitors are encouraged to take a selfie (with assistance) with the Merc with a Mouth, leading to awesomeness like the below:

I want to take a picture with a giant Deadpool giving a thumbs up.  OK, honestly I would then probably edit myself out of the photo, but hey it’s the thought!

What fun marketing things bring a smile to your face?  Register to leave a comment, or let me know on the Facebook page!

Deadpool 2 was great, Kingdom Hearts 3 and PS Vita news

Stardew Valley PS Vita

If you liked Deadpool, the sequel is a must-see for you

So I saw Deadpool 2 last night.  Given the posts over the past few days, I think it was fairly obvious how much I was looking forward to it.

Short version – I really enjoyed it.  It built on the first movie and dialled it up, and I had a great time.

I did have a few concerns about copy-pasting the best parts of the first Deadpool, but given Ryan Reynolds passion for the project, they were very small.  And after seeing it, I am glad to say these were all mostly unfounded.

The only reason I say mostly unfounded is that if you didn’t like the fourth wall breaking in the first movie, then you really won’t like it here.  The trailer shows a lot of examples of these casual references to the ‘real’ world to give you an idea of what I mean.

For me, all of this was a plus.  I loved each reference that I caught, and I will probably be seeing it again to try and catch all the others I am sure are there.

Deadpool 2 Cinema
So many walls were broken in the making of this film

If you enjoyed the first movie, this is a no-brainer go see for you.  I really want to see Infinity War again on the big screen, but Deadpool 2 may have pipped it priority-wise for what to go see again.

Could there be Kingdom Hearts 3 news coming?

So another franchise I love and will need to book major holidays for is Kingdom Hearts.  It’s only been about 12 years Square – take your time I’m not in a rush.  I did recently buy the 1.5 and 2.5 PS4 remixes thinking I would play that in the meantime, but let’s be honest.  Destiny 2 is fun with the guys, and I have God of War to play and Detroit Become Human coming.  And that’s without touching the rest of my backlog.

Luckily for me, the good people at Kingdom Hearts Insider made my day a little brighter with this gem:

Now, kind of like my movies, I am glad it’s coming but I don’t want to know EVERYTHING that’s coming.  A huge part of these games appeal to me is exploring the worlds and getting a new perspective on all the franchises involved.

However, if an actual release date was part of this invitational premiere, that would be amazing.  If Square pulled a Bethesda and revealed the game is released in a few weeks, that would be both amazing and terrifying for me.

Kingdom Hearts 3 Worlds Promo
I can't wait to explore all the worlds again

Amazing because I can finally play the game!  But terrifying because IT and End of Financial Year never mix well.

In any case, you know I will be sharing more on this as it becomes known!

Side note: If/when the Fox/Disney merger goes ahead, Deadpool will technically be eligible to be used in future Kingdom Hearts games.

Please Please Please Please Please that would be so terrible for all the right reasons.

Vita owners have a mixed news day.

I liked my PSP.  I outright LOVED my Vita.  A lot of us that bought it did.  If you listen to the grumbles on why it failed, the main group that apparently didn’t love the console was Sony themselves.

Today, I have my Switch, and the only regret is that the Switch now is almost what the Vita could have been five years earlier.

Late last year, the Wii U port was cancelled and concerns that the PS Vita port wouldn’t be far behind.  Stardew Valley’s creator Eric Barone aka ConcernedApe went onto the blog and said that wasn’t the case, but it’s all been quiet since.

Well, that changed a couple of days ago with the announcement that the Vita is getting the game on May 22nd.  And not only getting the game, but it’s a crossbuy purchase, so if you have Stardew Valley on PS4 it will unlock on your Vita, and vice versa.

Stardew Valley PS Vita
Unfortunately about a year too late, but it made it!

Unfortunately, this version of Stardew Valley isn’t slated for the multiplayer patch coming, but it has finally made it to the best handheld hardware prior to the Switch.

Just to be clear – yes, I love my Vita.  It has the best hardware.  The 3DS software library kills it in comparison to the Vita.  That statement is just as true.  I am just sad that the killer hardware couldn’t get the killer software library it deserved.

Speaking of sad, there is some bad news for PS Vita to go with the good.  Physical cartridge production got an official end date of March 2019.  It has been a couple of years since I have seen any physical Vita presence in the stores, prompting many a ‘PS Vita is dead’ video on YouTube.  This is just the penultimate step for Sony shutting down the handheld for good.

Ah well, at least now I have my Switch to enjoy while I think of what could have been.

Until tomorrow,

Deadpool 2 releases TODAY! Dad Jokes with Kratos, and Nathan Fillion is back

Deadpool 2 Cinema

What better way to start your Wednesday than with DAD JOKES!

Christopher Judge is best known for his work in the Stargate shows as Teal’c.  This year he is known for a new undertaking, taking over from veteran Kratos voice actor Terrence C. Carson in God of War.

If you are a Stargate fan, you will know that Christopher Judge displays a mischievous streak and always looking to have a bit of fun.  Today’s video found at polygon.com shows him voicing Kratos making Dad jokes.

Let’s be honest.  Do you need to know more?

Nathan Fillion returning to the small screen in The Rookie

Another actor that enjoys themselves is Nathan Fillion.  I could go on and on about greats like Firefly and Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, but I would go on and on 😀

This year, Nathan Fillion returns in a new series called The Rookie, where a 40-year-old divorcee becomes a Hollywood police officer.  The trailer below sets up the history pretty well, but this looks to be a more serious role than Fillion’s latest outings.  I look forward to seeing for myself how this will play out.

Deadpool 2 releases today!

I am seeing Deadpool 2 tonight.  Work is shuffled, things are arranged, this is happening.  I am excited 😀 Once again, the final Deadpool trailer:

I will say I am a little disappointed with the internet in some ways though.  Last week, via Instagram, Ryan Reynolds posted the following Infinity War anti-spoiler campaign request/parody/whatever it’s Deadpool who knows:

#deadpool2

A post shared by Ryan Reynolds (@vancityreynolds) on

My love of the franchise is well known in the office, and I have already been asked: “Can you tell me if it’s true *Spoiler Thing* happens in the movie when you see it tonight?”.  The question seemed innocent to the individual involved and was surprised when I pointed out the question was a dick move on their part.

So it seems people have been putting up spoiler information including post credit scene breakdowns on the internet.  I am sure this will get them clicks, and generally speaking people have to go out of their way to read the spoilers.

The internet on the whole has gotten better at putting actual spoiler info in the titles.  I didn’t filter a small spoiler for Infinity War, but seeing late that Peter Dinklage was in the film was fine – what he was doing etc. wasn’t referenced.  I still find it amusing though that a lot of the world got Infinity War almost a whole week before the US, but when they got it THEN the spoiler information came pouring out the same day.

If you are one of those people that read the spoiler articles, while more power to you, how about not spreading the information to others without asking?

To their point of view, the article they read said it could be changed, so it might not happen.

But it might happen.

I now have in my mind what could have been a fun surprise during the film.  I am already excited, so my mind is already trying to blow it up more than it probably is intended, in anticipation of a fun event.  So now if it happens, that sense of wonder and surprise is soured.  If it doesn’t happen, will I be disappointed in that at the end of the night?  Only time will tell.

But at the end of the day – if you want to know specifics on something you haven’t seen, and it’s not easily searchable on the internet, probably don’t ask others that haven’t seen it those same specific questions.  It’s obviously supposed to be a surprise.  Just sit back and enjoy.

If you are the sort of person that has to know – just make sure the people you ask feel the same way.

Until tomorrow,

JohnHQLD

A few fun bits and pieces to start the week off with!

Deadpool Unicorn

Great news to start the week with!

So on the last Blatherings, I spoke how I was disappointed Brooklyn Nine-Nine was ending.  I got the news Friday after the renewal of Rick and Morty, and was really bummed by the news.

I hoped the cancellation was just a paperwork thing with the Fox-Disney merger and Brooklyn Nine-Nine being a Universal TV Property.

Well, luckily, it kind of doesn’t matter anymore!

It may only be one more season so far, but it’s back and that’s enough for me right now!

Destiny 2 new secrets aren’t just on Mars

I am text block. Click edit button to change this text. Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Ut elit tellus, luctus nec ullamcorper mattis, pulvinar dapibus leo.

Say what you will about the state of Destiny 2, this kind of event is always awesome to see.  It’s something no one has to do – developer, publisher, or player.  But when it happens, and seeing everyone working together, I always have a warm feeling when people just work together.

First prize was a ‘real’ Javelin spear, with Golden Coins as consolation prizes.  While these are amazing and exciting, I can’t imagine the excitement as the puzzles were solved to reveal actual understandable content.  It may be cliche, but for me, that is a prize in itself.  And there is a chance it isn’t finished – check the last image!

Reddit users joined forces to solve a cipher that started off as a symbol in AI Rasputin’s bunker, with one Redditor unlocking the following message:

“Thank you for taking the time to piece together this message, friend. The time of our final conflict is drawing closer and you and Ana have an important role to play in the events to come. So watch over her, Guardian. I would have no life without Ana or the Exoprogram. I regret that we have become strangers, but we each have a path that we must walk. And, ironically, there never seems to be enough time. Tell her Rasputin’s first attempt was in the right location, but the wrong moment. Look here: 43.549573, -73.544868 – e”

Destiny 2 Rasputin's translatable symbol
I would never have even stopped to see if this could be translated

The note is penned by Ana’s sister Elsie, who is ‘The Stranger’ in the first Destiny.  I won’t lie, this is the storyline and lore that has me the most excited, and I can’t wait to see where else the lore takes us.  If only I had more time to raid…

If you want to see the entire Reddit mega thread of a solution, it can be found here.

For nothing more than a smile, and Deadpool

I am going to see Deadpool 2 Wednesday night.  I am going to enjoy it.  I have the tickets, and well, you know, Deadpool, so I am confident in these statements.

You know why I am confident of Deadpool?  Well, if the amazing marketing and impromptu videos (of which apparently 20 or so from the first film are still to be seen) didn’t convince you, nothing will.

For the rest of us, there is a show in South Korea called “King of Masked Signer”.  No, I hadn’t heard of it either.  But last week a special guest nailed a certain famous song from Annie, and the mask is so fitting…

So, good news all over the place!  Hopefully this puts a smile on your face to start the week with!

Here is to a great week everyone,
