Bring on robotic bodies! Being sick bites. It even interferes with gaming!
I didn’t get in much gaming last week, as I spent the second half of the week sick. Bleah. I already have enough wrong with my body without basically a nasty cold getting me down as well.
With any luck, this will pass quickly. I have to be healthy for the next few weeks. See how that ends up. I was looking forward to games with Alpal and co Saturday, and various holidays meant I miss this for a couple of weeks.
I did get to try something I haven’t for a while. I have a new phone, which meant trying a relaxing game I have been neglecting.
Tokaido – Android
Being sick bites. But with my nose running and my head pounding, that made me think of something I haven’t played for a while. Something described by some friends as ‘the hangover game’. That’s right – Tokaido, the game of gently exploring Japan.
A gentle turn-based game with many ways to approach scoring. But while you need to pay attention to many things, you can take as long as you like. While being ill, this was rather beneficial!

Istanbul Digital – Steam
I thought I would quickly play a round or two of Istanbul. Between Istanbul and Blood Rage, it’s hard for me to pick my favourite digital implementation to date.
The answer to that will be put to the test soon, but in the meantime, I thought Istanbul would be easier on me. Well, to say I approached the game a little overconfident would be an understatement.
I thought I had set up a nice little section where I could buy the last two rubies in a couple of turns. What I didn’t expect was for the entire board to gang up on me! If I was playing at the table, it was like the others agreed to work together to make sure my plans came undone.
People sometimes say that AI ‘cheats’, but in this case, I was actually happy with the outcome. People often say they want more ‘human’ like AI, and in this case, that is exactly what it felt like.
Bravely Default 2 – Switch
I tried playing for a bit, but I wasn’t quite up to the task. I did enjoy playing a bit of the B and D mini-game, but story-wise Chapter 2 is beating me up in the boss fights.
There are ways around it, I can see how to win, but while being ill the length of the battles is a little much for me. So I have taken a small break, but the new jobs I have acquired seem like a lot of fun still!
Hopefully, I will get to Chapter 3 this week. If I don’t, it’s not the end of the world, but the story is staying interesting. There are the same cliche overtones, but the tale’s setups and small twists are quite compelling.
